I have this problem during the winter months in that certain places on my hands get small cracks in them and then bleed. For the most part, this only happens when we have a particulary dry winter (as we are this year), and so I end up going a couple months with the hands of an old man. It doesn’t seem to matter how much expensive Norwegian Formula Neutrogena cream I put on my hands, they just soak it up and then get dry and crack and bleed again. For this reason alone, I’m hoping that the cold will soon be over and we’ll have spring and rain and butterflies again. The bare-knuckle boxing excuse is getting old and unfunny.

I have tubes of lotion at home, at work, and even in my car. Despite this, in the winter months, my hands are pretty rough, too. While not entirely effective, lotion does help somewhat.
I just noticed: I like your new site icon’s in the address bar/bookmarks. Elsa or Zoey? If I had to guess, I’d guess Elsa.

The worst is when I’ve just put a little bit of lotion on my hand and then I randomly get introduced to someone at work and they shake my hand and give me sort of a weird, queasy look wondering what I just got on their hand. It’s sorta like when you fart at your desk and someone walks in about 20 seconds later and you’re not sure whether to just shut up or warn them that you beefed it.
I just created that new favicon today, but it’s still not showing up for me unfortunately. Your guess of Elsa is correct indeed.

Personally, I think you were just engineered for extremely high performance environments. Like the SR-71 Blackbird, who’s skin is allowed to leak fuel when cold, but when in flight the titanium heats up, expands, and fills the gaps.
So clearly the solution isn’t lotion; it’s going Mach 3 on your rollerblades. Or maybe just using a Mach 3 razor. That must factor in somehow…

Funny you mention the Mach 3 razor, because lately whenever there’s a problem I don’t think I can solve, I simply say Fuck it, we’re doing five blades and I know that everything’s going to be just fine.
I didn’t know that about the SR-71, though. I can certainly count on your for my obscuro fact of the day.

I get pretty dry hands in the winter too. Seems like as soon as I put some lotion on them, i’m washing my hands for some reason (i’m just a little bit of a hypochondriac) and they’re all dried out again.
They never get to the point that they’re cracked or bleeding though. Tough luck that/

It’s not fun and it’s messy and not permanent. But, I put Vaseline on my hands at night and then put socks on my hands like mittens. You have to put enough Vaseline, but it really works. If I do that two nights in a row, I can go about a week before having to do it again. Lotions don’t help. I’m always washing my hands, too. I also saw some product called SoySoft on the internet when I queried Google on the subject.
